Crowns

Crowns, or dental caps, are a mode of dental restoration which, when cured in place, fully covers the portion of a tooth above the gum line. This procedure can be utilized in both restorative and cosmetic treatments. Not to be confused with composite fillings/inlays/onlays, which are dental restorations that are used to fill in or cover over just a portion of a tooth. As dental crowns encase a tooth where it is visible, above the gum line, a dental crown, in effect, transforms into the tooth's new exterior surface.

Crowns are applied in order to rebuild damaged, chipped or decayed teeth, to strengthen teeth, and as a means of enhancing the cosmetic look of teeth, on the surface. Crowns can be composed out of porcelain, ceramic, gold alloy, or a combination of both.
